Two arrested after Santa Rosa burglary

Two Santa Rosa men were arrested last week for allegedly stealing more than $27,000 in items from a 68-year-old woman’s residence while she was in a hospital.

Mark Alva Clay, 48, of Santa Rosa, was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse, burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jon Ryon Anderson, 50, of Santa Rosa, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property. Both men were arrested last Thursday.

On March 11, officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department were dispatched to a report of a residential burglary that occurred at the Sequoia Gardens Mobile Home Park off Fulton Road.

The victim had been transported to the hospital for a medical emergency the day before the burglary was discovered, police said.

An elder advocate, who had been assisting the woman in moving to an assisted living facility, went to the residence to retrieve personal items for the victim and discovered the front door open and items missing from inside the residence, police said.

The ensuing investigation revealed items worth more than $27,000 were stolen from the residence.

Investigators were able to track a large portion of the stolen property to a secondhand store in Santa Rosa, police said.

Police identified Clay and Anderson as suspects in the theft and learned Clay was employed as a handyman at the mobile home park for more than three years. Investigators served search warrants at Clay and Anderson’s homes on Thursday and took them into custody.
