Friendly Fremont K-9 dies suddenly

A Czechoslovakian-born K-9 that served the Fremont Police Department died late last month, police said Friday.

K-9 Warco was found to have an autoimmune dysfunction on Feb. 24.

He was rushed to the Ohlone Veterinary Clinic but died the same day.

Fremont Police Department’s K-9 Supervisor Sgt. Jason Lambert described Warco as both friendly and hardworking:

“He was a super friendly dog.”

Warco was born on March 17, 2013, and joined the Fremont Police Department on June 26, 2014.

He was certified in patrol, narcotics, and SWAT operations. He served Fremont police officers for more than a year and a half and participated in more than 100 incidents from patrol to street crimes to SWAT and major crimes.

Lambert said officers are heartbroken, especially because Warco is the second K-9 to die recently:

“They are family to us.”
