Woman run over on I-280 identified

A woman who was struck and killed while apparently crawling on Interstate Highway 280 in San Francisco on Monday morning has been identified as 23-year-old Alexandra Stevenson.

Stevenson had no fixed address, according to the medical examiner’s office. She was found dead in the right lane of southbound Highway 280 north of Alemany Boulevard around 6:15 a.m.

California Highway Patrol investigators were told she was crawling in the lanes of traffic and was struck by more than one vehicle. No vehicle that hit her stopped at the scene.

Stevenson was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision closed several lanes of the highway for about four hours, according to the CHP.

CHP Officer Vu Williams today said it remains unknown why Stevenson was in the roadway or how she got there. Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports, which might shed light on whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

Anyone with information on the collision is asked to contact the CHP San Francisco area office at (415) 557-1094, or the CHP’s non-emergency public access number (800) TELL-CHP.
