A former Stanford University star swimmer was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman who was drunk and unconscious on campus at a fraternity party last year.
Brock Allen Turner, 20, was found guilty on three felony counts of sexual assault of a woman outside of the Kappa Alpha house at 664 Lomita Court, according to Santa Clara County district attorney’s officials.
The charges were rape of an unconscious person, digital penetration with an unconscious person and assault with the intent to commit rape, according to district attorney’s officials.
The jury’s verdict was announced today at the Palo Alto Courthouse, where Turner was on trial earlier this month, district attorney’s officials said.
Turner faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 2, according to district attorney’s officials.
On Jan. 18, 2015 shortly before 1 a.m., two men on their bicycles saw Turner on top of a woman on the ground near a dumpster, according to a report from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman appeared unconscious and wasn’t moving while having sex with Turner, sheriff’s officials said.
When the bicyclists stopped near the area, Turner ran away, according to the report.
After the men checked on the woman they chased after Turner and ended up in a struggle before they pinned him to the ground, the report said.
Deputies assigned to work at Stanford responded to a report of an unconscious woman in a field and a suspect, later identified as Turner, detained for possibly sexually assaulting her, according to the report. Visit us at online casino.
Responding deputies found her unconscious and partially naked near the dumpster. She was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose.
The victim, who was not a Stanford student, woke up later that morning and told investigators that she lost her memory after midnight while drinking outside the home.
Turner informed investigators that he met the woman during the party, they kissed on the ground outside the home and the intercourse for him seemed consensual.
He had told investigators he removed the woman’s underwear and touched her breasts but didn’t take off his pants.
The defendant admitted to having nine drinks before he fondled her but said he didn’t rape her, the report said.
Turner consumed about seven beer cans and some “swigs” of whiskey but was conscious while he had sex with the victim, according to the report.
Turner is from Dayton, Ohio and was a freshman at Stanford on the men’s swim team, but withdrew from the school soon after his arrest.
