Golden Gate Bridge bans parking Easter weekend

Personal vehicle parking will be closed in lots at each end of the Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday and Sunday to mitigate traffic backups as visitors line up for a limited number of parking spaces, according to the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway And Transportation District.

The restrictions are in place between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Golden Gate Bridge visitors are urged to enjoy the view from the Welcome Center at the south end of the bridge and Vista Point from the north end by taking a tour bus, corporate shuttle, taxi or ride-booking service, district officials said.

Tour buses will still be allowed to park in the lots at the Welcome Center and Vista Point. Taxis and vehicles from ride-booking services may pick up and drop off passengers at the Welcome Center but will not be able to enter Vista Point.

Taxi or ride-booking service staging or waiting will not be allowed, and the ride-booking vehicles will need a decal or other proper identification, district officials said.

The Welcome Center will still be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Visitors can park in the overflow lots along Lincoln Boulevard and in the Presidio or take public transportation to the Welcome Center or bridge.

Electronic signs on and before the bridge will notify drivers of the parking lot closures.
