Scooter rider ejected 80 feet to death

A female riding a scooter died Saturday afternoon in Campbell after the scooter struck a retaining wall, causing her to be ejected from the scooter.

The crash was first reported at 2:18 p.m. on an onramp connecting northbound Winchester Boulevard to southbound San Thomas Expressway, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The rider was operating a Yamaha scooter, when she somehow lost control of the scooter, according to CHP spokesman Officer Ross Lee.

The scooter then struck a retaining wall on the onramp. The victim was ejected from the scooter and flew over the onramp, landing about 80 feet down near train tracks along Winchester Boulevard, Lee said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lee.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The CHP are continuing to investigate the incident and have not released the identity of the victim.
