Service along the Altamont Corridor Express has been shut down for the Tuesday commute after a derailment Monday night along Niles Canyon Road injured at least nine passengers.
Fourteen people were injured Monday evening when an Altamont Corridor Express commuter train derailed in the Niles Canyon area of Alameda County near Fremont.
The derailment of ACE train No. 10, which travels from San Jose to Stockton, was announced on Twitter by ACE at 7:46 p.m.
Alameda County firefighters responded to the 5500 block of Niles Canyon Road, according to a dispatcher.
All passengers have been removed from the derailed train car, which ended up in Alameda Creek, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.
Out of 14 injured victims, 10 of them suffered minor injuries and 4 suffered serious injuries. None of the injuries suffered are thought to be life-threatening, according to firefighters.
Passengers who were not injured are being moved to the Alameda County Fairgrounds, according to firefighters.
The Fremont Police Department has issued a statement indicating that Niles Canyon Road has been closed due to the derailment. They expect the road to remain closed for several hours.
Tuesday’s ACE train service has been canceled due to the derailment.
