A 51-year-old San Francisco man was released this morning in Anaheim after an investigation into a Klu Klux Klan protest that became violent on Saturday, a police spokesman said today.
Sgt. Daron Wyatt said five KKK members were attacked at 12:10 p.m. on the south side of Pearson Park by multiple counter protesters.
Charles Donner was arrested immediately after the attack on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, but police have determined that the KKK members acted in self-defense, Wyatt said.
Police initially said six people were in the group of KKK protesters, but have clarified only five were in the group. All have been released, Wyatt said.
Counter protesters stomped two KKK members on the ground and the KKK members stabbed three counter protesters, according to police. One of the stabbing victims was taken to a hospital in critical condition and the person’s condition has been upgraded to stable.
The two other stabbing victims were in stable condition, police said.
One of the stomped KKK members went to a hospital in stable condition. The other suffered minor injuries and refused treatment, according to police.
Seven of the counter protesters were arrested on suspicion of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury.
All of the people arrested Saturday were adults except for one juvenile who was part of the counter protester’s group.
