Man hospitalized after being struck by Amtrak train

A man was hospitalized Tuesday morning after an Amtrak train struck him in Berkeley.

At about 9:30 a.m., an eastbound train struck the man, who had allegedly trespassed and was standing on the train tracks near Gilman Street, according to Union Pacific spokesman Francisco Castillo.

The victim was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, Castillo said. He did not know the extent of the man’s injuries.

Train traffic was stopped for about an hour but has since resumed, according to Castillo.

Investigators are trying to determine the exact location of the incident.

No other injuries were reported, Castillo said.
