Inmates celebrate academic success

Monterey County sheriff’s officials and others will celebrate the accomplishments of eight inmates on Thursday in Salinas.

The celebration will start at 10 a.m. at the county jail rehabilitation center at 1414 Natividad Road.

Two inmates passed their high school equivalency exams and six others earned certificates in subjects such as mathematics, science and social studies.

“These types of programs give us a sense of accomplishment and hope for a better future,” one inmate said in a statement.
