M-line back on track after derailment

Trains are running again on the M-Ocean View light-rail line following a derailment Friday morning near 19th Avenue that halted service for more than six hours, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

At least one of the wheel trucks on a train carrying six passengers went off the tracks near 19th Avenue and Holloway Street around 6:20 a.m., according to Muni spokesman Paul Rose.

There were no injuries in the derailment, but it blocked traffic on the light-rail line until shortly after 1 p.m.

Rose said the incident caused some damage to the surface around the rail and repairs had to be made and a test train run through the area before service could resume.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.

The derailment was not the only incident to delay Muni service this morning.

Around 11:27 a.m., a non-Muni collision involving two vehicles ended with one of the vehicles, a pickup truck, landing against a 49 Van Ness/Mission bus at Ocean and Phelan avenues, near City College, Rose said.

While the collision did not directly involve the Muni bus, it has stopped service on the 49 line and buses are switching back at Persia and Ocean avenues until the area is cleared, Rose said.
