San Jose will be the host city for the Major League Soccer All-Star Game this summer, when international and national players will play each other at Avaya Stadium.
Arsenal Football Club will play MLS all-star players in a game scheduled for July 28 at the stadium, home of the San Jose Earthquakes.
Arsenal, formed in 1886, is a London-based team playing in the English Premier League.
Arsenal is playing in the 2016 AT&T MLS All-Star Game for the first time and is the 13th international club to participate in the event.
MLS commissioner Don Garber said in a statement:
“Our AT&T MLS All-Star Week has become a celebration for the North American soccer community, highlighted by two teams showcasing many of the world’s top players.”
The city previously hosted the game in 2001 at San Jose State University’s Spartan Stadium.
San Jose Earthquakes president Dave Kaval said in a statement:
“We were already thrilled to be hosting the MLS All-Star Game this summer and welcoming in a club with the prestige and reputation of Arsenal will make the event even more exciting. … The celebration will have multiple days of events leading up to game day and will provide an outstanding fan experience for the San Jose community.”
Tickets can only be bought through a lottery system and fans can register online at http://www.mlssoccer.com/all-star/tickets. An exception will be made for Earthquakes season ticket holders, who can purchase tickets through a presale.
