Suspect arrested after Oakland police chase

A suspect has been taken into custody after allegedly hitting civilian and police vehicles during a pursuit from Oakland to Berkeley this morning, a police lieutenant said.

Police Lt. Chris Bolton initially wrote on Twitter around 8:50 a.m. that police and California Highway Patrol officers were looking for a black or gray four-door Mitsubishi with the last three license plate digits of 204.

Police received reports that the suspect intentionally struck both civilian and police vehicles and was armed. Locations where incidents occurred include East 23rd Street and Coolidge Avenue and Fruitvale Avenue and Hyde Street, as well as at least one location in West Oakland, Bolton said.

The lieutenant said police terminated their pursuit for public safety reasons and the vehicle fled out of Oakland.

However, the suspect was eventually taken into custody in Berkeley with the help of CHP and Berkeley police officers, Bolton said shortly after 9:20 a.m.

The vehicle involved in the pursuit was also recovered, he said.

No other information about the case was immediately available.
