A California Highway Patrol officer was stabbed in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood Tuesday morning, police said.
The stabbing occurred shortly after 10 a.m. in the area of Essex and Harrison streets, police said.
A suspect was later detained in a parking lot at Fourth and Freelon streets, police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said.
The CHP officer was transported to San Francisco General Hospital.
The extent of the officer’s injuries was not immediately available.
Authorities are advising people to avoid the area during the investigation into the stabbing.
