Officials with the East Bay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is asking for help tonight locating a dog stolen this morning from one of the society’s campuses in Oakland.
The dog, a two-year-old black and white pit bull mix named Daisy Mae, was taken at 10:50 a.m. from 8323 Baldwin Street by a bearded black man in his 30s wearing blue and white track pants and a blue shirt, shelter officials said.
A volunteer was walking Daisy Mae around the campus play yard and parking lot when the man inquired about the dog. The conversation ended and the volunteer walked away when the man grabbed the dog, according to shelter officials.
The man left with the dog in a brownish gray sedan.
Daisy Mae came into the shelter as a stray in November of last year, shelter officials said.
She was scheduled to have surgery this week to remove a mass.
Daisy Mae has a punch in the top of her right ear, black ears, nose and goatee.
She has a white throat and a white spot shaped like a one-shouldered evening gown that extends from her throat past her snout to between her ears and to the top of her head, according to shelter officials.
All four feet are white and the white fur on her left front foot extends up one-third of her leg.
She has an orange collar and a tan and black harness.
She can be reactive to other dogs, shelter officials said.
In a statement, East Bay SPCA President Allison Lindquist said:
“We’re worried for this dog’s safety and would appreciate any tips if anyone has seen Daisy Mae. Please call (510) 563-4603 if you have seen her.”
