Two employees of a San Francisco shuttle bus company have been arrested and charged with embezzling more than $250,000, District Attorney George Gascon announced Wednesday.
Rami Karadshe, a former controller at Bauer’s Intelligent Transportation, and Fadi Stephan, a former salesperson, fraudulently diverted funds to a subcontractor they created that did not provide any actual services to Bauer, according to court documents.
Karadshe, a 38-year-old Concord resident, and Stephan, a 41-year-old South San Francisco resident, are charged with 28 counts of felony thefts involving a loss of more than $200,000, according to prosecutors.
Karadshe was arraigned on Friday and entered a not guilty plea, according to court records. Bail was set at $250,000 and he is no longer in custody.
Stephan was arraigned Wednesday and pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at $200,000 and he is no longer in custody.
Gascón said in a statement:
“These individuals were bilking their employer for hundreds of thousands of dollars. …. Taking money from an employer, whether big or small, is fraudulent, it is theft, and it will be dealt with.”
A call to Bauer’s Intelligent Transportation seeking comment has not been returned.
