Sutro Baths sightseer rescued from rising surf

A man hoping to snap a scenic picture at Sutro Baths in San Francisco had to be rescued Monday afternoon due to rising surf, according to a Fire Department official.

San Francisco Fire Department spokesman Jonathan Baxter said that at 2:52 p.m. a call came in about a man who was stuck on rocks at Sutro Baths.

He had walked out on the rocks to take a picture and turned around to realize his path had been submerged, Baxter said.

Two rescue swimmers were deployed to help the man, Baxter said.

Though they encountered rough waves, the swimmers and the man escaped the situation without suffering injuries, Baxter said.

A high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service for the San Francisco area was in effect until 4 p.m. today.

Baxter said it’s important for residents to heed warnings about high surf and exercise caution around the shoreline.
