High surf pounds SF coast, warning issued

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning for coastal areas of San Francisco today.

The warning is in effect from 7 a.m. today until 9 p.m. Sunday.

A large westerly swell of 16 to 20 feet will begin to impact the coastline this morning and will last at least into Sunday and possibly into next week, according to the National Weather Service.

A High Surf Warning indicates dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline, producing dangerous swimming conditions and deadly rip currents.
