San Jose bicyclist killed in predawn hit-and-run

Police are searching for a truck believed to have struck and killed a pedestrian before fleeing the scene in San Jose Friday morning.

Officers responded at 4:51 a.m. to the area of Delmas Avenue and West Santa Clara Street on a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

Responding officers located a man on the ground suffering from serious injuries. Medical personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the man deceased a short time later, police said.

Police said the preliminary investigation into the collision indicates a full-size white pickup truck was traveling south on Delmas Avenue and struck the pedestrian.

The driver fled the scene.

The San Jose Police Traffic Investigation Unit is responding to the scene to investigate the incident.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

Police said West Santa Clara Street is currently closed between the state Highway 87 off-ramp and Autumn Street.

Police described the suspect vehicle as an early 90s white full-size pickup truck. The truck appeared to be filled with items in the rear bed area. The truck should have some damage to its front fender area.
