In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Caltrain announced they will operate a free service to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. King on Monday.
Caltrain officials said the Celebration Train will depart the San Jose Diridon Caltrain Station at 9:45 a.m. Monday and have onboard activities for those in attendance before arriving in San Francisco at 10:55 a.m.
Hosted by the Northern California Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Community Foundation, the theme of the event, The Reality of the Dream, will focus on the progress made with the civil rights movement, while examining the present reality and the commitment to a brighter future, Caltrain officials said.
Although the event is free, Caltrain officials said riders will need to register in advance and will receive a commemorative ticket. The train will make additional stops in Palo Alto at 10:05 a.m. and San Mateo at 10:22 a.m.
Caltrain officials said there is no special southbound service, but the Celebration Train tickets will be accepted on southbound trains departing San Francisco after 1 p.m. on Monday.
