Collectible Clipper cards commemorate Super Bowl

In honor of the Bay Area hosting Super Bowl 50, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in partnership with the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee has announced the release of three limited-edition collectible Clipper cards.

Clipper cards have been used since June 2010 as an easy all-in-one card for transit users in the Bay Area.

The Super Bowl 50 cards join other collectible Clipper cards from other recent Bay Area events such as the opening of the new Bay Bridge eastern span and the Golden Gate Bridge’s 75th anniversary.

Carol Kuester, director of electronic fare payments for the MTC, said in a statement that the card is “a great opportunity to let tourists as well as Bay Area residents know how Clipper makes paying for transit around the region much more convenient.” MTC officials said that customers who order their cards online or over the phone will receive one of the new cards while supplies last.

Fans can also purchase the cards, for $3 each, in person at select Clipper retailers.

The new cards can be used on any of 17 Bay Area public transit systems.

For a complete list of transit systems accepting the new cards as well as locations to purchase them, go to mtc.ca.gov.
