A bridge that connects Vallejo’s Mare Island to the city’s north end waterfront is set to close this week, as a nearly six-month-long project to improve the bridge inches closer toward completion, city officials announced Monday.
The Mare Island Causeway Bridge will be closed in both directions Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to city officials.
During the project’s final phase, construction crews will match the bridge’s new deck with the old deck, seal the joints between the two decks and install handrails on both sides, city officials said.
During the closure, traffic entering and leaving Mare Island will be detoured onto Walnut Avenue to state Highway 37, according to city officials.
The Mare Island Causeway Bridge Western Approach Project aims to rebuild the bridge’s western approach to the bridge. The project began in July and is expected to be completed next month, city officials said.
