The decomposed body of a man found on a Bodega Bay beach earlier this month was identified Tuesday as a boater who went missing when he and his friends’ fishing boat overturned in Tomales Bay in October.
Roseville resident Sergey Golubyatnikov, 53, was found off the Doran Beach jetty at the entrance to Bodega Harbor at about 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, according to the Sonoma County coroner’s office.
Friends and family said Golubyatnikov had been boating aboard a 20-foot fishing vessel with two friends the morning of Oct. 26 when the boat overturned.
One of the men swam away and was rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter. Fellow Roseville resident 55-year-old Ananiy Malinovskiy was found dead nearby.
But Golubyatnikov remained missing despite an extensive search until his body washed ashore a few miles up the coast about six weeks later.
His cause of death remains under investigation by the coroner’s office.
A dentist, Golubyatnikov was the father of five children. A GoFundMe page for the family had raised over $33,000 as of today. It is located at www.gofundme.com/bd7p8ane.
