Suspect arrested in alleged rape of Santa Clara University student

Sunnyvale police today said they have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the rape of a Santa Clara University student.

Pedro Madrid, a Sunnyvale resident, was arrested on suspicion of rape, kidnapping and penetration by a foreign object in connection with the Nov. 11 sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman, police said Thursday.

The victim met Madrid at a house party near the Santa Clara University campus, police said. Madrid himself is not a student, and was not known to anyone at the party, police said.

When the victim became extremely intoxicated, Madrid drove her to his home in Sunnyvale and allegedly sexually assaulted her, police said. The assault was reported on Nov. 14.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Sunnyvale police at (408) 730-7120.
