85-year-old killed crossing the street

An 85-year-old woman died Tuesday morning in San Leandro after she was struck by an SUV while crossing the street, according to police.

The woman, a San Leandro resident, was crossing the 1600 block of Manor Boulevard near St. Felicitas Catholic Church shortly after 6:30 a.m. when she was struck by the SUV, police said.

She was knocked unconscious by the collision and later died of her injuries at a hospital.

The SUV’s driver, a 33-year-old Hayward man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police said the man had just left his job after working the midnight shift at a local business. Drugs and alcohol are not thought to have been a factor, and the driver was traveling at the speed limit of 25 mph.

The collision occurred before sunrise, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any other information on it is asked to contact San Leandro police at (510) 577-3208.
