A 17-year-old boy killed in a collision south of Gilroy on Monday morning was identified Tuesday as Alexander Armlin, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.
Armlin lived in Tres Pinos, an unincorporated community southeast of Hollister in San Benito County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Around 8:15 a.m. Monday, the teen was driving a 1988 Chevrolet on northbound Bolsa Road north of Bloomfield Avenue, where a witness saw him traveling at about 60 mph, CHP officials said.
The 17-year-old crossed the road’s solid double yellow lines and sideswiped a southbound 2002 Nissan driven by a 31-year-old Gilroy woman at about 40 mph, CHP officials said.
The Chevrolet then went off the roadway and struck a tree before it came to rest down an embankment, according to the CHP.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and pronounced Armlin dead about 30 minutes later, CHP officials said.
Investigators have not determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
