SF sheriff’s department welcomes eight new deputies

Outgoing San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi welcomed eight new deputies Friday, congratulating the new hires on completing the department’s supplemental core training.

The new deputies are expected to help offset severe staffing shortages, according to a statement from the sheriff’s department.

Mirkarimi said in a statement Friday:

“This is a proud day for our department and our City in welcoming these newly minted deputy sheriffs who gave this extremely important training their all.”

Core training, for newly-appointed custody division staff, prepares graduates to work in jail facilities. Subjects of instruction includes supervision of inmates, inmate psyche and medical issues, gang classification, booking, reentry programs and prisoner legal services, according to the sheriff’s department.
