A 14-year-old boy out walking his dog suffered life-threatening injuries Friday evening when he was struck by a car on West Third Street in Santa Rosa, according to police.
A police officer came across the collision and found the boy unconscious in the roadway on West Third Street at Brockhurst Drive at 5:51 p.m. tonight, according to police.
The boy was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and then flown to Oakland Children’s Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Investigators found the boy had activated the crosswalk lights at Brockhurst Drive and was crossing from the south side of West Third Street when he was struck by an eastbound 2003 Toyota Matrix.
The driver, who remained at the scene, told police he had seen the crosswalk lights turn on but had not seen the pedestrian. He said he saw the boy at the last second but was unable to stop in time.
The driver, 24-year-old Windsor resident Luis Alejandro Delgado, did not show signs of drug or alcohol use and had a valid driver’s license.
He is cooperating with police.
