Dump truck spills load onto Highway 101

A dump truck crashed and spilled debris from the Silver Avenue overpass above U.S. Highway 101 in San Francisco onto the highway below, blocking all southbound lanes of the highway Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported shortly after 8:45 a.m. on the Silver Avenue overcrossing above southbound Highway 101, CHP spokesman Officer Vu Williams said.

No vehicles were hit by the spilled debris, which CHP officials said was possibly wood and drywall material.

Motorists are being diverted to Interstate Highway 280 to get around the debris, Williams said. He said the preliminary estimate is that the lanes could be closed until noontime while crews clean up the debris.

An ambulance responded to the scene but Williams did not immediately have information about possible injuries.

Williams said since the crash happened on the overcrossing in the San Francisco Police Department’s jurisdiction, more details about the truck and its driver will come from police. A police spokesperson was not immediately available to provide further details.
