Antique violin left in car, stolen

Police in San Francisco are asking for the public’s help in returning a violin worth thousands of dollars that was stolen last week in an auto burglary in The City’s Fillmore district.

The 1795 “George Craske” full-size violin – valued at $10,000 to $15,000 – was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 1300 block of Webster Street on Nov. 20, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9:20 p.m., according to police.

A Fredriksson bow valued at $4,000 and a BAM Hightech Slimline violin case valued at $3,500 were also stolen, police said.

Police said that the instrument has great sentimental value to the family it was stolen from.

Police are asking anyone with information about the violin’s current whereabouts to call the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.
