Santas sought to respond to kids’ letters

San Francisco children writing letters to Santa Claus may get their wishes fulfilled this holiday season, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

Starting Tuesday, USPS will begin its Letters to Santa program, collecting children’s letters and then allowing volunteers and organizations to respond to them.

Volunteers and organizations interested in participating can visit the Santa Station at the postal service’s San Franciscos Processing and Distribution Center at 1300 Evans Ave. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, as well as the same times on Dec. 8 and Dec. 15.

There, they can view and select letters from Santa’s official mailbox, located in the center’s lobby.

In many cases, children often ask for basic necessities, such as food, clothing, shelter or a missing parent, according to the postal service.

Cards and packages can be dropped off at the center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, as well Dec. 11 and Dec. 18.
