Four men have been arrested for allegedly slashing an inflatable dam in Fremont earlier this year, letting 50 million gallons of water rush down Alameda Creek, Fremont police said Tuesday.
The vandalism of the inflatable creek dam, an essential facility for the Alameda County Water District, happened early in the morning on May 21, according to Fremont police.
The four suspects allegedly entered the restricted area near the creek and slashed the dam with a knife. Damage to the dam was estimated at $1 million and the water lost was enough to serve nearly 500 homes for a year, police said.
Police released surveillance images of the suspects a few weeks later. Tips from the public implicated four men who live near the creek.
On Saturday police arrested 21-year-old Dylan Jeffery, 21-year-old Drake Elkhouri, 19-year-old Gavin Palmon and 20-year-old Zackory Morton. They were booked into Fremont Jail on felony vandalism charges and scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon.
