Solano County workers reach contract agreement

A tentative agreement has been reached in a contract dispute between Solano County and government workers represented by Service Employees International Union Local 1021, a union spokeswoman said Thursday evening.

The agreement was reached this evening, two days after workers walked off their jobs for a strike for the second time in a little over a month.

Cecille Isidro, a spokeswoman for SEIU Local 1021, said the terms of the tentative agreement have not yet been presented to members, but the union’s bargaining team will unanimously recommend a yes vote. She declined to provide details of the agreement but said that it covered “fair wage increases,” supplemental employer contributions to family health care and other issues.

News of the tentative agreement came shortly after Solano County officials announced that a judge had issued a temporary restraining order enjoining 51 “essential employees” from striking.

Isidro dismissed that ruling as “moot,” given the agreement, and noted that most workers covering emergency services had been working anyway during the strike.

Solano County administrators had said in a statement Friday that they had declared an impasse in negotiations with the union and that “future discussions would be futile.”
