PG&E crews and firefighters are still working this evening to stop a gas line fire near a commercial building in San Jose, a PG&E spokeswoman said.
The one-alarm fire was reported at 1:50 p.m. near a three-unit commercial building in the 4000 block of Harwood Road.
San Jose fire spokesman Capt. Tim Miller said:
“It’s right up next to the back of the building, but the building has not caught fire. It’s a cinder block building, so that’s helping obviously.”
Firefighters are in place just in case the building catches fire.
Miller said PG&E crews located the line on fire at about 5:10 p.m. and they should have the gas off by about 5:30 p.m.
Utility crews had shut off power to about 3,000 customers near the fire because it was impinging on power lines, Miller said. Now only about 80 customers are without power, he said.
No injuries have been reported. No evacuation of the commercial building was necessary because the building was vacant at the time of the fire.
