Sleeping woman, driver hurt when car crashes into home

A vehicle crashed into a house Monday night, seriously injuring the vehicle’s driver and a woman who was inside the house sleeping.

Around 10:30 p.m., fire crews responded to a report of a crash near Farnsworth and Purdue streets, according to Alameda County fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles.

The 25-year-old woman was asleep inside the home’s garage, which had been converted into a sleeping area, when the vehicle struck the house, Knowles said.

The vehicle apparently landed on top of the woman and fire crews had to rescue her from underneath the vehicle, according to Knowles.

Three dogs were also injured during the incident.

Both the woman and the driver were taken to the hospital, Knowles said.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the driver to veer off the roadway and into the house, according to Knowles.
