Five people suffered injuries Saturday when a group of suspects in an armed robbery were involved in a series of collisions during a pursuit in San Francisco, police said.
The three suspects themselves suffered injuries when the vehicle they were in overturned in the Potrero Hill neighborhood near the end of the pursuit, San Francisco police spokesman Albie Esparza said.
Along the way, Esparza said the suspects collided with two other motorists, including a Department of Parking and Traffic officer.
Esparza said the episode began with reports of an armed robbery at around 4 p.m. at a business in the 2200 block of Judah Street. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, Esparza said.
About an hour later, officers spotted the suspect vehicle near the Tenderloin police station; that’s where the pursuit began, Esparza said.
As the vehicle fled through the South of Market neighborhood, it struck a parking enforcement vehicle, causing it to roll over. The officer inside was taken to the hospital, Esparza said, but is expected to survive.
Police continued to chase the vehicle as it entered the Potrero Hill neighborhood.
At an intersection, the suspect vehicle struck another motorist.
Esparza said that driver also suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The suspect vehicle then hit a parked car and overturned at 17th and Mississippi streets.
The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, Esparza said.
Police took them into custody shortly thereafter, he added.
Esparza did not identify the three suspects, who were taken to the hospital for their injuries.
