Officers responded at about 8:20 a.m. to the area of Chestnut and Lyon streets in the Cow Hollow neighborhood on a report alleging someone was armed with a knife, according to police.
Officers tried to detain the suspect but he allegedly ran and was able to drive off in a police SUV despite an officer’s attempt to stop him, police said.
Authorities allegedly located the SUV on city streets and once again the suspect led police on a chase, according to police.
The suspect allegedly hit several civilian vehicles as he tried to escape, leading police to Treasure Island, police said.
Officers allegedly tried to stop the suspect by securing a gate, which the suspect avoided by driving on the sidewalk, according to police.
Officers shot at the suspect to protect the safety of pedestrians and officers, police said.
No one was injured, according to police.
The suspect then allegedly drove onto the westbound ramp of Interstate Highway 80 and collided with another vehicle, police said. He allegedly got out of the SUV and jumped 30 to 40 feet from the upper deck to the lower deck of the Bay Bridge, according to police.
The suspect allegedly tried to carjack a vehicle until an officer made the same jump and arrested him, police said.
Two officers, the suspect and one motorist went to a hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, according to police.
The police department’s homicide and internal affairs divisions, the district attorney’s office and the San Francisco’s Office of Citizen Complaints are investigating the incident, police said.
