Man hurt in North Beach shooting

A man was shot near a busy intersection in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood as bars were closing early Saturday morning, police said Tuesday.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday, a 27-year-old man was struck by gunfire near the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Broadway, according to police.

Witnesses at the scene alerted police, who were able to get the man medical attention.

Police said the victim had been standing at the intersection when he heard shots and realized he had been hit.

The male suspect fled the scene following the shooting and remains at large, police said.

Officers said the victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
