Acid bomb discovered at golf course

Officers arrested a man this morning in Rohnert Park on suspicion of building and possessing a destructive device, according to the city’s Department of Public Safety.

Officers were dispatched at 9:39 a.m. to the Foxtail Golf Club at 100 Golf Course Drive after someone reported a possible explosive device at the club, public safety officials said.

Officers learned when they arrived that the device had been on the 18th fairway before employees took it to the maintenance yard, according to public safety officials.

Employees thought bringing the device to the maintenance yard would better protect guests, public safety officials said.

Employees also told officers that they found the remains of another device that had been detonated nearby, according to public safety officials.

The officials said that they called on the University of California at Berkeley bomb squad for assistance and the device was destroyed on the club’s driving range.

Officers evacuated the area before destroying the device, according to public safety officials.

Officers arrested Rohnert Park resident Kevin Hornbuckle, 49, as the person responsible for building the device, public safety officials said.

Officers said Hornbuckle told them the device was an “acid-bomb.” Public safety officials want to advise citizens to avoid moving a potential bomb until authorities check it.
