The suspicious death of a man who collapsed on Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco after an altercation in a coffee shop last week remains under investigation, police said Monday.
Shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday, 60-year-old San Francisco resident Marc Garcia apparently walked into a coffee shop in the 1400 block of Van Ness Avenue, near Bush Street, and was verbally combative with people inside the business, police said.
Garcia then left the shop and collapsed outside. Paramedics responded and transported him to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said that because the man had been involved in an altercation just moments before his collapse, the death is being investigated as suspicious.
Additionally, a suspect is being sought in connection with the man’s death. The suspect is described as a man between 20 and 35 years old, standing 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds with dark hair and possibly tattoos on his neck and arms. The suspect was last seen wearing white pants, a dark zip-up jacket, and had a blue messenger bag, according to police.
The cause of Garcia’s death remains under investigation.
