A Vallejo city worker and a neighbor rescued a double-amputee from a burning three-story Victorian home on Kentucky Street in Vallejo Thursday afternoon, according to the Vallejo Fire Department.
Another male resident suffered second- and third-degree burns and was taken to a hospital, Battalion Chief Pat Dunn said.
The fire at 202 Kentucky St. in downtown Vallejo was reported at 3:25 p.m. The house was divided into apartments and was well involved in fire when firefighters arrived, Dunn said.
The blaze was controlled within a half-hour but firefighters were at the scene for several hours, Dunn said.
Vallejo Fire Department spokesman Mark Libby said the man who was burned managed to get out of the house on his own. A neighbor helped rescued the double-amputee from his apartment located below ground level, Libby said.
Libby said:
“He pulled him out and the city Public Works Department employee stopped and helped.”

The man who was burned lived in the main area of the house, Libby said. The fire started in the front of the house, possibly on the porch, Libby said:
“It was pretty much a total loss with heat and flame damage throughout the house.”
