San Jose police terminate officer charged with rape

A San Jose police officer charged with rape and felony assault was fired this week, police confirmed Thursday.

Officer Geoffrey Evatt Graves, 40, has been in custody and on paid leave from the San Jose Police Department since being ordered to stand trial in March.

He is alleged to have raped a woman on Sept. 22, 2013 while on duty after driving her to the TownePlace Suites by Marriott hotel in San Jose following a domestic dispute she had with her husband.

He is also charged with two counts of felony assault on his former girlfriend, a San Jose police dispatcher.

Graves was arrested in March last year and was out of custody on bail until earlier this year.

Graves had pleaded guilty to rape and felony assault charges in March but changed his plea back to not guilty after prosecutors added enhancements that carry the possibility of multiple life sentences if he is convicted.
