Two East Bay residents were among four people who died in a single-vehicle crash following a pursuit in the Central Valley on Sunday night, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Officials.
Sheriff’s officials on Monday identified Steven Thomas MacFadden, of Hayward, as the 19-year-old suspected drunk driver who attempted to flee from sheriff’s deputies.
Alejandro Tomas Rodriguez, a 20-year-old Castro Valley resident, was one of three passengers who perished in the subsequent rollover crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
Local law enforcement attempted to stop the vehicle, a black Chevrolet Blazer, at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of DUI, sheriff’s officials said.
The driver then fled and allegedly drove wildly at speeds of up to 100 mph during a pursuit near French Camp. Sheriff’s deputies said he eventually lost control and the car flipped over several times.
MacFadden, Rodriguez and an unidentified female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. There was another woman in the car who died at a hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
As of this morning, the sheriff’s office had not yet released the names of the two other passengers who died in the crash.
