Police peg headless rabbit as animal cruelty

Police in Menlo Park are investigating a case of animal cruelty after a decapitated rabbit was found Thursday.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Hanna Way and found what appeared to be a small, non-domesticated rabbit that had been decapitated, police said.

Officers noted there was no blood at the scene, which indicated the possibility the rabbit was placed in the roadway, police said.

An officer from the Peninsula Humane Society responded to the scene and took possession of the animal.

Police said evidence was also located at the scene and was collected and sent to a crime lab for analysis.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call police at (650) 330-6300.
