Bicyclist killed by alleged DUI driver

Police arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence after he collided with a bicyclist just outside of Brentwood on Sunday night, killing the cyclist, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities responded around 6:40 p.m. to a report of a traffic collision on Balfour Road, east of Sellers Avenue, CHP officials said.
Medical personnel arrived to find a woman on the side of the road unconscious. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP officials said the 54-year-old woman was riding a ten-speed bicycle west on Balfour Road.
A 29-year-old man driving a 2006 Plymouth Neon was traveling in the same lane when he struck the woman’s bike with the front end of his car, CHP officials said.
The woman fell off the bike and succumbed to her injuries, according to the CHP.
Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of driving drunk, CHP officials said. Neither his name, nor the woman’s identity has been released.
