Kite boarder blown on to Great Highway

San Francisco police responded two collisions leading to life-threatening injuries Friday afternoon, including one in which a person on a kite board was struck by a car after being blown from Ocean Beach into traffic.

The kite boarder was struck around 3:12 p.m. at Sloat Boulevard and Great Highway, according to San Francisco police.

He was apparently setting up his board when a gust of wind blew him into the southbound lane of Great Highway.

He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Great Highway remained closed in the area until police complete their investigation.

The second collision was reported before 4:30 p.m. near Ghirardelli Square.

A motorcyclist and taxi collided in the area of Polk and Bay streets, but police are still working to determine which direction both were traveling and who was at fault.

The motorcyclist was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
