Expect BART, Muni delays Labor Day weekend

Muni and BART riders should bring their patience with them during the Labor Day weekend.

BART has been reminding riders for weeks now that the Transbay Tube will shut down for a second time at the end of service Friday night and all day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday so that the transit agency can do critical track work in the tube.

The transit agency will provide bus shuttles from the 19th Street BART station in Oakland to the temporary Transbay Terminal in San Francisco. Officials said to expect 30 minutes to one hour delays using the bus bridge.

At the Transbay Terminal and on Market and Beale streets bus stops, Muni will offer free rides on the 5-Fulton, 7 Haight/Noreiga, 38-Geary and 38R-Geary, according to the The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

The SFMTA said it will also be working on the Central Subway project during the Labor Day weekend, which will affect N-Judah and T-Third riders in the area.

Muni officials said they will be working on traffic signal and track work at the intersection of Fourth and King Streets. SFMTA Director of Transportation Ed Reiskin said Tuesday that the work being done will tie in the existing tracks to the Central Subway tracks, allowing trains to continue up Fourth Street when the project is complete.

Work will start at 10 p.m. Friday and conclude Tuesday at 5 a.m., the transit agency said.

The E-Line will not operate Labor Day weekend and buses will operate on the F-Line.

The T-Third will only run from Sunnyvale to Berry and Fourth streets in the outbound direction so riders on the T will have to walk a block up to the Caltrain Depot to catch the N-Judah if they need to continue heading outbound. To get to Balboa Park, riders will have to get off from the N at the Embarcadero station and catch the K-Ingleside.

The K-Ingleside will only run between Balboa Park and the Embarcadero station. If riders on the K need to continue inbound, they must board a N-Judah at the Embarcadero station. Anyone needing to go beyond the Caltrain Depot in outbound direction, must board at a temporary platform at King and Third streets or walk to the platform at King and Berry streets to catch the T-Third.

On top of the Central Subway construction, Billy Joel is playing at AT&T Park Saturday Night. Muni officials said it will be deploying extra trains and staff as it does for San Francisco Giants games.

The SFMTA will also be continuing it’s nightly shutdown of the subway at 9:30 p.m. for its radio and emergency phone replacement project.

Parking meters in the City will be enforced along with seven-day street cleaning and Muni will run on a Sunday schedule on Monday.
