Concord man drowns in American River

A 25-year-old Concord man drowned in the American River in Sacramento County on Sunday.

The Sacramento County coroner’s office identified the man as Kevin Dixon, who was pronounced dead at about 3 p.m. Sunday.

According to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials, Dixon and two of his friends had been reported missing in the American River area. Dixon’s friends were found safe, fire officials said.

However, a search helicopter crew discovered Dixon between the river’s clay banks and the San Juan Rapids and alerted rescue boat crews, according to Fire Capt. Michelle Eidam.

Dixon was found submerged under eight feet of water, Eidam said.

She said he was not in a life jacket at the time he was found.

Dixon was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, where he was pronounced dead.
