Bay Area gas prices drop

Gas prices in the region have dropped an average of 14 cents to $3.38 per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline, according to the latest monthly fuel gauge report released by the American Automobile Association.

Pleasanton boasts the biggest drop in gas prices in the Bay Area with a 21-cent decrease. Santa Cruz is the only area in the entire state of California where gas prices went up, with an increase of one cent, according to AAA.

The lowest gas prices in the Bay Area can be found in Concord with an average price of $3.28 per gallon. The Bay Area location with the highest gas prices is San Francisco at $3.47 per gallon, according to AAA.

AAA spokeswoman Cynthia Harris said this significant decrease in gas prices is caused by slowing demand combined with an abundance of output at oil refineries.

The national average is currently $2.58 per gallon and has consistently fallen for 27 consecutive days, according to AAA.
