Ridership on the San Francisco Bay Ferry nearly doubled on Saturday between Oakland, Alameda and San Francisco, ferry officials said.
On a typical summer Saturday, 4,014 passengers ride the ferry line, but due to BART’s closure of the Transbay Tube that number jumped to 8,986 boardings, according to ferry officials.
Saturday’s ridership also increased on the route between Vallejo and San Francisco from 2,174 to 2,829. Sunday, however, only 510 passengers boarded – compared to 841 on a normal summer Sunday, ferry officials said.
Sunday morning ridership was close to average for the Alameda/Oakland/San Francisco route – with 1,587 passengers this morning compared to 1,575 on a normal summer Sunday.
The San Francisco Bay Ferry is a service provided by the Water Emergency Transportation Authority. Officials said they plan to release a full summary Monday afternoon of how this weekend’s ridership was affected by the closure of the Transbay Tube.
